Prevent, protect, act: occupational safety and health at the heart of Clariane’s commitment

Clariane Group

On the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Clariane reaffirms its commitment to providing a safe, respectful working environment that supports the well-being of its 70,000 employees. Convinced that the quality of care and support is directly linked to working conditions, the Group continues to implement a structured, participatory approach based on listening to teams, preventing risks, and fostering a shared health and safety culture at every level of the organisation.

A key priority for quality of care and support

Clariane’s health and safety policy is integrated into the Group’s Quality Management Standard. It is built on core principles: strong managerial involvement, enhanced social dialogue, risk identification and prevention, employee training, and data-driven performance management.

Deployed across all countries, this policy is supported by a network of dedicated health and safety reprentatives, working daily within facilities.

In 2025, this momentum was reflected in the completion of the protocol stemming from the 2021 European agreement, with 82% of objectives achieved. It was further reinforced by the signing of a new ambitious European agreement in June 2025, marking a significant milestone for the sector in terms of prevention, working conditions, and social dialogue.

Stronger European momentum and tangible actions

Progress achieved in 2025 reflects collective mobilisation across all levels of the Group:

  • widespread deployment of health and safety officers across sites, close to operational teams;
  • strengthened monitoring through more detailed accident data analysis, enabling targeted prevention actions;
  • rollout of regular health and safety visits by managers, encouraging dialogue and the identification of risk situations;
  • integration of dedicated safety moments into management routines (safety briefings, OHS committees).

Across countries, these priorities translate into tailored operational actions to each facility: equipment to reduce physical strain, targeted training programmes, and local awareness initiatives.

This momentum is delivering tangible results on the ground. In Germany, at the Haus Phönix Windsbach nursing home, no workplace accidents have been recorded since the beginning of 2025.

As explained by Jan Grabinger, Director of the facility: “We have six employees responsible for health and safety on-site. They identify and report risks and implement preventive measures. We also maintain contact with employees on leave, even for short periods, to better understand situations and provide appropriate support.”

At the same time, the Group has strengthened its approach to psychosocial risk prevention. Training in stress and conflict management has been expanded, while employees now have access to listening services—both internal and external—complemented by mediation, social support and individual assistance mechanisms.

Focus for 2026: Embedding warm-up routines into daily practice

In 2026, Clariane is placing emphasis on simple, accessible actions to strengthen everyday prevention, starting with muscle warm-up routines.

Facilities are encouraged to introduce short warm-up sessions as part of team routines. These help improve flexibility, reduce physical strain and promote safer professional movements, while also creating a useful transition at the start of the working day.

This initiative forms part of a broader prevention approach driven by OSCAR, the Group’s health and safety mascot, which makes key messages more visible, practical and accessible to all.

Rolled out across all facilities, OSCAR relies on a variety of tools and materials to support employees in adopting good daily practices. Integrated into the Group’s ISO management standard, it helps to embed a lasting, shared culture of prevention.

Several simple and engaging messages support this initiative:

  • “Warm muscles, lower risks.”
  • “A small step for your health? Start with a warm-up.”
  • “One warm-up a day keeps the doctor away!”

At Clariane, taking care of those who take care of others is an absolute priority. Thanks to the commitment of all, the Group continues to strive to make every facility a safer, more supportive and more attentive place to work for everyone.
