Helping the homeless: an immersive snapshot of the streets of Madrid alongside Grupo 5 and SAMUR Social
Clariane’s strength lies in its community of men and women and in the way their professions complement each other to better serve vulnerable people. Across Europe, their daily commitments combine care, health and support to meet human needs as locally as possible, sometimes far beyond the walls of our facilities.
In Spain, through its expert brand Grupo 5, Clariane works alongside the SAMUR Social service for Madrid city to support people in very vulnerable situations. Under a public service delegation contract, the Group manages multiple facilities and social mechanisms dedicated to tackling emergencies and exclusion, providing essential support every day to those who have no home, are living in isolation or are going through a time of great vulnerability, including homeless people, families experiencing difficulties and elderly people who live alone.
Embodying our purpose as close as possible to the field
Alongside SAMUR Social de Madrid, our Grupo 5 teams support very vulnerable people in the Spanish capital every day. This partnership has resulted in multiple complementary support mechanisms:
- emergency accommodation centres open 24 hours a day, which offer much more than a shelter for the night: a hot meal, washing and hygiene facilities, a listening ear and personalised social support.
- mobile street teams, who seek out homeless people to offer them immediate help and direct them to the appropriate solutions
- street outreach teams, made up of two to four professionals who walk through neighbourhoods to identify, engage with and support people experiencing homelessness,
- emergency response campaigns linked to climate conditions, particularly during cold weather periods.
Grupo 5’s professionals offer more than care and material support. Above all, they provide human contact – a look, a word, a gesture that reminds everyone that they are not forgotten.
