Clariane Innovation Days in Italy: using neuromodulation to support rehabilitation
At the third edition of the Clariane Innovation Days, held on 25 and 26 September 2025 in Brebbia (Italy), the Group brought researchers, caregivers, entrepreneurs and European partners together to imagine the future of rehabilitation – and more specifically, the future of neuro-rehabilitation.
Entitled “Brain Neuromodulation and Neuro-Rehabilitation: From Science to Practice” and organised in collaboration with Korian Italy and its affiliated Gaetano e Piera Borghi Foundation, as well as the European Innovation Council, the event highlighted the latest scientific advances focusing on a major issue: using neuromodulation to support patient rehabilitation.
Two days of discussions focused on innovation in rehabilitation
More than a hundred experts came together at the Borghi Foundation, a state-of-the-art institution in the field of neurological rehabilitation. Researchers, clinicians and entrepreneurs shared their work, experiences and visions on the potential of neuromodulation.
The event featured several highlights, including:
- Scientific talks by experts from Bordeaux, Barcelona, Dijon, Milan and Ferrara on topics such as neuromodulation applied to language disorders, post-stroke spasticity, neuroplasticity and cognitive rehabilitation.
- A round table on integrating new technologies into clinical practice and assessing their acceptability to both caregivers and patients.
- Presentations from innovative start-ups (Brain&Care, Corticale, Dessintey, Mirrorneurocare, NeuronUp, Sooma, Wearable Robotics), shedding light on their practical solutions to improve care pathways.
- A screening of OREKA, a film retracing the journey of Maxime Cabanne, a high-level athlete who became a paraplegic, supported by the teams at the Inicea Marienia clinic, with the support of the Clariane Foundation, partner and sponsor of the project.
Promoting links between science, clinics and innovation
"We want to foster exchanges between experts within our network, but also with academic experts, hospitals and innovative industries. It’s about being one step ahead in meeting the real needs of patients, their families and healthcare professionals in the countries where we work"
Following a similar model to previous editions, the event created three levels of dialogue:
- With facilities within the Clariane network through close contact with field teams;
- With academic researchers, helping share scientific expertise on neuromodulation in neuro-rehabilitation;
- With technology companies, who support the group as it constantly improves care pathways.
We need to take current scientific and technological advances on board, but we also need to support health professionals in their ethical reflections on everything they do.
The Innovation Days are a real source of energy – they show that our innovations are finding their place in daily practice and powering the future of our professions.
Chaque expert contribue à créer un véritable maillage de connaissances, essentiel pour améliorer la prise en charge et soutenir nos équipes. Each expert helps build a powerful knowledge network, which is essential to improve care and support our teams.
A lasting commitment to health innovation
Launched in 2024, the Innovation Days are central to Clariane’s innovation strategy, at the crossroads of science and care.
Previous editions had explored neurological and robotic rehabilitation in Biarritz and innovation in mental health in Barcelona.
The Clariane Innovation Days 2025 in Italy reaffirm this ambition: sparking dialogue between disciplines, connecting science with practice and imaging the future of care together.
“These discussions are essential: they help us adjust our practices, imagine tomorrow’s solutions and meet our patients’ actual needs everywhere we work,” said Professor Piau.
